The Creative use of Carports

Carports are popular all over the world, where they are mostly used for the storage of cars and other vehicles. However, there are also a number of creative uses for carport structures, which allow people to get away from adverse weather conditions while still enjoying the great outdoors. Before we talk about the creative uses of carports, it is important to understand the difference between a carport and a garage.
While both structures are used primarily for the storage of cars and other vehicles, unlike a garage, a carport is not an all enclosed structure. While a garage typically features four walls and a roof, a carport will never feature all four walls. In contrast, a carport will either be free standing and have no walls at all, or it will adjoin a main building and share one or more walls with it.

While a carport is not as safe and secure as a lockable garage structure, it does offer other benefits to home owners. Firstly, there is the significant benefit of construction costs, with carports generally being much cheaper to install than similar sized garages. Also, there are benefits in terms of ease of access, with people more able to move freely underneath carport structures. This access advantage has been used creatively by many people, who have turned their carports into outdoor entertainment areas, work spaces, kids play areas, and storage spaces.

While a carport will never be as secure as a garage, it can be a much more versatile structure due to its open ended design. Lots of people around the world use their carports as temporary entertainment areas, by simply parking their cars on the street and enjoying the space away from the sun and rain. A carport can be a great place for a party, and allows you to enjoy the outdoors while not being at the whim of the weather. Carports can also make great playing spaces for kids of all ages, with the concrete underneath often perfect for games of basketball, handball, and hop scotch. Carport structures are widely available from builders and manufacturers around the world, and come in both traditional or prefabricated form.
